Traditional Teaching
Any good teaching includes good technique. My tradional teaching is still based in the Suzuzki roots, as the students need good teachiques, starting from posture, left hand and right hand set up to specific violin teachiques. Some of my students have started with the Suzuki method,, what perpared them well for their school orchestra, while they’re still continue with good technique, but also need help with auditions.
Wisdoms from
One must always practice slowly. If you learn something slowly, you forget it slowly.
Itzhak Perlman ( Reigning virtuoso of the violin)
Violin players
If I wanted to play the violin,I had to work.Because anything that one wants to do really, and one loves doing, one must do everyday. It should be as easy to the artist and as natural as flying is to a bird.and you can’t imagine a bird saying well, I’m tiresd today, I’m not going to fly!
Yehudi Menuin ( Jewish American Violinist and Conductor)
Technique
School orchestras don’t have enough personal to teach every student, what makes it very important to work with a private teacher. As mentioned above, proper techique it is essential to playing well. Only learning new pieces without foundation won’t get you far. I might use Etudes, classical pieces ( from the Suzuki books or others), different exercises, etc. Even your Auditon pieces will for sure teach you new skills, but they won’t be enough.

My mother started me out in violin when I was 4 years old and was my teacher until I was about 12. For the first few years of playing I didn’t get involved with a lot except playing with my mother and helping her out with her students every once in a while. Shortly after I turned 12 we moved from California to Texas and the next year my mother and I were butting heads too much for her to be able to teach me anymore so she got me lessons with Daina Staggs who is a wonderful woman. I enjoyed taking lessons under her and I even got to be a part of group classes with her other students, as well as a few solo recitals throughout the year and a musical camp called DFW Wow where musicians from all over the US would come to learn together.
One of my favorite things is to play in Orchestra. In my late teens I joined a youth orchestra for a couple semesters and then later joined a different one when I was 19, but this second one was much harder. For the most part I hated it there and I almost didn’t finish the year but my mother was persistent for me and made sure I played in the last concert before I left. I was also the oldest one there at the time and had been playing my violin for longer than a lot of them had even been alive, so I felt old a couple times while there haha.
The conductor was very difficult to work with and was extremely strict, which didn’t make myself and many others feel good. However I did get to play a solo concerto piece with the orchestra which I earned by winning a Concerto Competition earlier that year, so that was a good and fun experience.
Not long after that my mother and I joined an adult string orchestra and I even finally became friends with most of the other adult members after not making friends with any of the kids my age in the other orchestras. I’ve often tended to get along better with adults than those closer to my age. A year after joining I got first chair and became the concertmaster while also being the youngest member of the orchestra. I got to play the Bach Double with another member with the orchestra and have enjoyed playing with them every single minute.
